Liberal Democrat Transport Minister, Susan Kramer, has announced the success of the West of England Partnership’s £4 million Local Sustainable Transport Fund bid. South Gloucestershire’s share of the bid is £1 million.

This funding will be used to improve South Gloucestershire’s cycle network, as well as revamping facilities for commuters at Parkway Station.

Local Lib Dem transport spokesperson, CouncillorPat Hockey, said: “This is certainly very good news. With so much development coming to South Gloucestershire it is really important that we improve our local cycle network in order to give people real alternatives to driving and reduce congestion on our roads.

“Upgrading the interchange facilities at Parkway Station will be a great help to people who pick up buses there to go to Southmead Hospital. Currently, the bus shelters there have no seats and are very drafty.”
