No idea where a Tory stands

by admin on 2 April, 2014

South Glos conservatives astonished residents on Wednesday night, when they refused to vote on freezing green bin charges.

Liberal Democrat Cllr Ruth Davis proposed that the fees be frozen until at least 2016/17, to encourage people to use the service. When the vote was taken, all six lib Dem and Labour members voted in favour. But the five conservatives sat on their hands and refused to vote.

Cllr Davis said: “I’m flabbergasted. First the Conservatives abstained on the consultation. Then they voted against introducing the charge, and had no thought through plan to fill the financial gap. Now they’re complaining it exists, but they won’t actually vote one way or the other on how much people should pay. Residents deserve the truth – and right now, nobody knows where the Tories stand.”
