South Glos residents should have clearer runs into Bristol on public transport in the near future, following a vote by South Gloucestershire Council.
The council’s strategic planning and communities committees both agreed to installing fixed penalty cameras watching bus lanes. This should reduce the number of cars that use them illegally, so the buses aren’t held up on their routes.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Claire Young, chairing the Communities committee said: “This should make bus journeys that bit easier. It’ll help people get to work on time and make our public transport run more smoothly.”
Liberal Democrat Councillor Pat Hockey, chairing the PTSE committee said: “These cameras can be moved around, so we can monitor different areas. It’s a simple way to enforce bus lane restrictions, and we hope people choose to stay on the right side of the line.”
