Councillor Claire Young (Lib Dem, Westerleigh) has called for more transparency at South Gloucestershire Council.
The council is run by a series of service committees, each of which controls a large budget. But the budget breakdowns available to the public only cover high level information, with no detail on individual services used by residents.
Now Claire has called for officers to ensure that the public can see how much money the council is spending on individual items – like street lighting, cleaning, and bins.
Cllr Young told the overarching Policy and Resources committee: “We get budget breakdowns as Councillors, but that’s not open to members of the public. The information that’s made public should allow the residents of South Gloucestershire to see where their money’s being spent.”
Council finance officers agreed to Cllr Young’s call and promised that more information would be made available.
