Liberal Democrats on South Gloucestershire Council have won backing for two energy initiatives. Funding has been identified for a Switch to Save scheme and to kick-start a community energy co-operative.
Cllr Dave Hockey (Liberal Democrat, Frampton Cotterell) said, “I’m delighted to hear that other councillors are supporting the proposal I made in May to introduce a Switch to Save scheme in South Gloucestershire. This allows lots of people to come together to negotiate a better deal with their energy providers.”
“A similar scheme in Bristol that cost £5000 to set up saved residents on average £100 per year on their energy bills – a total of £129,794 per year in that area.”
Speaking on the community energy co-operative, Cllr Claire Young (Liberal Democrat, Westerleigh) said, “This offers people a share in the profits of local renewable energy installations. Similar organisations in surrounding areas have been going successfully for some time and it’s time South Gloucestershire caught up.”
